Getting Started with AviaDBM ---------------------------- These instructions are for a 296 Atlantic Nov 2007 update, please substitute your own model, area, and dates. 1. Download an aviation database update file by following the links from http://shop.garmin.com/aviation/databases. You will then have a file with a name like "j296-atl-0711.exe" 2. Use WinZip v8 or later to extract file j296-atl-0711.awp from j296-atl-0711.exe 3. Use GPS_GEN mode "Create ISAM Database from Image File", filename j296-atl-0711.awp 4. Say YES when asked if OK to write file j296-atl-0711.img If this is all you require, j296-atl-0711.img can be uploaded to your GPS using GPS_USB or GPS_COM without change. Please ensure that files j296-atl-0711.awp and j296-atl-0711.img remain in the same folder. Alternatively, you can make some additions or changes: 5. Use GPS_DBM to make some modifications to the ISAM database. You can also make changes by creating a Batch Format text file and inputting it using GPS_GEN "Perform a Batch Update of ISAM DB". Note that GPS_DBM also writes to file "upd_bat.txt" in case you need to repeat the changes at some later date. 6. Use GPS_GEN "Create Image File from ISAM Database" to a new file "MyNewImage.img" (say). 7. Use GPS_COM or GPS_USB to upload MyNewImage to your GPS. Please ensure that file j296-atl-0711.awp is in the same folder as MyNewImage.img If you are making an image from the update for a different model, say for instance an image for a GPS90 from an update for a GPS92, then the "Create ISAM Database from Image File" should be performed using G92_GEN, and "Create Image File from ISAM Database" using G90_GEN. If you are told that the resulting image is too big for your unit, you can use the optional filters dialog to reduce its size. Note that the geographical limits are in Nddmmss Wdddmmss format.
